To be honest, the only reason I was interested in watching this one is because I wanna compare it with the 70's version of Bionic Woman. This updated version stars Michelle Ryan as Jaime Sommers, who had a terrible car accident after having dinner with her professor/surgeon boyfriend Will Anthros and lost her legs, an arm, an eye and an ear; not to mention the baby that she was carrying. Will is actually involved in a secret project called Bionics that creates artificial bionic parts and proceed to replace Jaime's missing limbs with bionic ones. The advanced bionic prosthetics and implants gives Jaime extraordinary new strength and other artificially enhanced gifts. The series also stars Miguel Ferrer, Will Yun Lee, Lucy Hale and Molly Price with Katee Sackhoff and Isiah Washington making recurring appearances.
First off, this new version of Bionic Woman is completely different with the 70's version with only the name of the female lead remained the same. Instead of a top tennis player with a sunny disposition, we have a bartender with lots of problem on her shoulder; a rebellious sister who loves to hack (the net, that is) and alcoholic activist father who is never around when they need him. Her only good thing in life was Will and that too was taken from her at the end of the first episode.
And instead of the Fembots, our girl gets to spar off with Katee Sackhoff who played Sarah Corvus, the first bionic woman who then went berserk, killing 14 scientists before she was terminated by her then boyfriend Jae Kim played by Will Yun Lee. I just loved watching their fight scenes near the end of episode one. Others say the scenes a rip-off but I can't help it when I see any good old girl fights.
My only complain is that Michelle Ryan didn't shine as the Bionic Woman. I was more at awe with Sackhoff's acting especially the part where she introduced herself formally to Jamie by adding the word, "Tada!". It was hilarious but at the same time creepy especially with the look on her face when she said that. Ryan seemed so staccato with her emotions being average at best.
Currently, I'm downloading episode two and hopefully this one will fare better than the first one.
